A collaboration proposal for Nespresso: compostable capsules made from pressed coffee grounds.

39,000

capsules are thrown away every minute.

500 years

is how long they can take to break down.

≈26 weeks

is how long a bioshot capsule takes.

How it works

  1. 1

Coffee brews as the water flows through.

  2. 2

    Filtered through micro-pleats.

A compostable, bio-based oxygen barrier with an unbreakable filter lid that keeps the extraction quality intact.

Decomposition process

One of the challenges was making visible what usually goes unseen: the material, how it works and how it regenerates biologically.

  1. Week 0
  2. Week 10
  3. Week 21

Capsule, lid and label: it all returns to the earth.

Made from pressed coffee grounds and biodegradable materials.

The proposal extended to social media content, with the product as the star.
